The marathon of my life

To all the running folks out there-I survived a tornado and truely believe my running little legs saved my life.  Im a full-time college student, work full-time, and train for marathons in my spare time (daily).  On April 28th I lost almost everything but my life and that of my dog.  While going to college in Athens, Alabama my residence was in a travel trailer.  The tornado had no mercy on our RV park.  We have a underground shelter at the park.  I ran as fast as my legs could go into the wind and rain, up a hill.  Within 5 minutes our park was a pile of twisted rubble.  I had insurance on my camper and vehicle, but my shed that held all my trophy’s, medals, and training equipment was not spared, nor was it insured.  It was heart breaking, but within a couple days I bought me some running gear and off I went.  Last weekend I finished my 34th marathon in 3 1/2 years.  As I ran up that hill I prayed God to keep me unharmed.  Running means so much to me, that I don’t know how I would go on if I couldn’t run.  I enjoyed my marathon and thanked God many times for allowing me to continue my goal of attaining my 50th marathon.  In two weeks I will head to Indiana, then take two week break before I fly out to Pennsylvania.  My post are laking because I’ve had no internet or computer, but Im back on line and ready for normalcy again.  Running On

Attention : Looking for a race next weekend

Its is so rare that I have a weekend off with no race in my schedule.  Does anybody know of any races (15K,20k-half) in the Alabama, Mississippi or Tennessee area.  Im training for a marathon and need to put in a 14 miler this week.  I’d love to do a race with the weekend being free.  If you know of a race July 24 or25 let me know.  THANKS  running on

Get back on track

Need to back on track to my weight loss goals. With school starting, holidays ending and the start of a new job, I slacked on the weight issue. Luckily I didnt gain anything. I need to lose a lb a week for the next 12 weeks to get down to weight goal of 125. I can do this if I focus on eating healthy and staying with my training program. The goal of running a 3:40 in May isn’t realistic. Having tried to push myself has created a soar knee and agrivated my right hip. Im going to run with a knee brace on left knee to see if that will help. I guess it is more important for me to keep running marathons than it is to run them at a faster pace. Ive changed jobs to eliminate so much physical activity on my body. This may help, we will see. I love crossing the finish line and that means more to me than how fast I finished the race. Im no super athlete, just a person who loves to run and finish every race I enter.

Countdown to Light of Day Marathon

Counting down to the 2nd of 3 races in the 3N3 Marathon Challange in Alabama.  Ran with a sore calf muscle in the first one.  The race was tuff but I finished.  Im ready for this one and hope to run a 4:15.  This will be my coldest marathon yet.  I don’t like running in the cold so it will be interesting to see how I fare.  Im the person who likes 60 or warmer when I run, with no wind.  Physically, Im ready for the race.

Its tough to stay focused during the holidays and the cold

Why is it such a chore to stay focused during the holidays?  Im glad I have a marathon in two weeks, it has been my only motivator.  I do think the cold weather plays a role.  I can’t run outside in the cold and wind, and putting miles on a treadmill isn’t fun either.    At least winters in Alabama aren’t as bad or long as winters  in Wisconsin:)

ClaimED #22 AT ROCKETCITY

It was not as cold as expected, the rain held of, but the wind was tuff.  I finished.  I did something a bit risky.  I changed my gait to take some pressure off the calf muscle.  Not wise, but it got me to the finish line in 4:16.  I feel like I just ran my first marathon, not my 22nd.  Im grateful for another finish.  Next stop, Jan 10, Mobil AL, The first Light Marathon.  running on and running happy

Im rolling in to Rocket City

A little over three weeks ago  I strained my calf muscle.  It was the last long run I was able to do.  I have done all I can to rest the muscle.  This will be my 22nd marathon in 29 months.  I have started and finished every one.  This is the first time Im a bit concerned about finishing.  It will be the coldest I’ve run a marathon.  I have run in cold weather (being from Wisconsin) however, never a full marathon.  I hope the running Gods are with me tomorrow:)  Not to mention, I registered twice for this marathon (a little expensive).  When I finish, Im collecting two finisher medals, one shirt and medal will go to my friend Rachael who is battling cancer and the other will go to my niece who suffers from Lupus.  When my muscle hurts, I will think of them and know my pain can’t compare to thier battle with life.

? for Hbm

When taking heart rate and blood pressure, it has been said to take in after waking in the morning.  I have found my heart rate is lower if I wait until I’ve been awake for two or more hours and before working out.  When I take mine upon waking it is about 57 to 60.  If I wait two + hours it drops to 48-52.  Am I that excited to get out of bed in the morning, that my heart rate jumps a few beats?

Needed—A muscle injury expert

The worst run I have done.  Set out for 18 mile run.  I finished but it wasn’t pretty.  I believe I strained my soleus.  I can’t stand flat and raise myself up on my tip toes.  I can dorsi and plantar flex with no weight and I don’t feel pain, but when I put any weight on leg I feel great pain.  The pain is on the medial part of calf and very swollen.  What have I strained or injured?  I have a marathon in three weeks…help!!!!!!!
